Dante network and switch/router requirements summary

Although any switch can pass along Dante audio including PTP information as the latency isn't required to be in nanorange, some consumer grade and perhaps pro-grade switches have certain options that will cause problems and they might be enabled by default.  Specifically options dealing with filtering of network traffic.

To successfully pass along audio data AND PTP information, the following settings in the switches/routers must be observed:

1. Make sure EEE (Energy-Efficient Ethernet) is disabled, if present.

2. Disallow filtering of unknown multicast traffic as this will block PTP messages.

3. Turn off IGMP snooping.

4. Ensure QoS is properly set up, if available.  See guide below for detailed information.
